Boukili is a French learning tool by Groupe Média TFO built around reading books. Kids get rewarded for reading, and teachers follow their groups’ progress. The app was built at Libéo, where I was a front-end developer, with Ionic: one codebase for web, tablet and phone.
Three ways to read
- Solo: to encourage independence.
- Narration: the story is read aloud, to help comprehension and pronunciation.
- Recording: kids record themselves, and parents and teachers see their progress.
Around the books
- Syllable-based educational games.
- A wardrobe to dress up your avatar as a reward.
- A quiz after each reading.
- A teacher interface to assign readings and follow students.
- A custom CMS so TFO can manage the books.
According to Libéo’s case study, Boukili is used by tens of thousands of households in Ontario and Quebec.
