Just to provide some context, League of Legends: Wild Rift was released in 2020 with promises of console support and controller compatibility. However, despite these assurances, years have passed without a console release or controller support.

It’s almost like an extended April Fool’s joke!

From day one, the message at the top of the first Wild Rift web page read:

LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, NOW ON MOBILE. PLAY FOR FREE! COMING SOON TO CONSOLES.

A Few Years Later

Yet, as time has gone by, there’s been no sign of a console release or controller support. Was it all a hoax that’s been dragged out for years? At this point, one might think so. But why tantalize us with that information on day one?

Why the Delay?

Let’s explore some reasons why a console version hasn’t been released yet.

Recreating Content

One possibility is that they’re recreating all the content from the original League of Legends game on PC. Initially, only a few champions were available, along with limited skins.

Controller Support

Developing a suitable controller layout might be more challenging than anticipated. Despite this, after playing Wild Rift for more than two weeks, the touch controls start to feel quite natural.

But Arena of Valors Managed It

Arena of Valors, a similar game on consoles, has successfully implemented controller support. Therefore, it’s difficult to accept this as a valid excuse.

Additional Content

Perhaps they’re focused on creating extra content and extensively testing it on mobile before considering a console release. The mobile version has seen numerous additions, such as seasonal updates and other exciting features.

That said, why not release the game on console now and continue adding content later?

The Pandemic

The real reason could be the ongoing pandemic and its impact on the economy. Riot may have faced staff losses or budget cuts, delaying the console release.

Speculations

What I heard

Some speculate that the game will be released in 2025, as Riot has hinted at a big year for League of Legends games and is reportedly focusing on Wild Rift’s development.

Some hint that few console features like has been introduced lately.

My wishes

I personally wish that this 2024 summer on July, we will see somethings announced.

Is the Game Dead?

Not at all. While it may not have soared as high as expected, Wild Rift remains healthy. In fact, it’s one of the best mobile games on my list, offering enjoyable gameplay with its faster pace and shorter match durations.

The quests, events, and other features keep the grind exciting, and I haven’t felt pressured to spend money on the game, except for the occasional skin for a beloved character. The graphics are impressive for a mobile game, and I’ve even heard some streamers claim that Wild Rift is in a better state than the PC version of LoL itself!
